HCMTI, through Young Chamber, have been looking at Employability Skills and young people and how to address the issues that businesses face with regards to young people being ‘work ready’.
We have a number of events coming up that are specifically aimed at addressing this and helping young people which may be of interest to you.
Pre-Apprenticeship Programme – Schools
We are holding a focus group meeting at 3pm on 25th January at Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, Felaw Maltings, Ipswich to discuss the idea of an industry led and endorsed pre-Apprenticeship qualification, to include a bespoke technical element and soft skills. We would love to have feedback from a range of businesses to help us design a programme to meet the needs of businesses, fill future skills gaps and to discuss the issues faced when employing young people.
Looked After Children and Care Leavers
This is an event on 23rd February (4.30 onwards – Ipswich venue tbc) in association with SCC Corporate Parenting. It is aimed at raising awareness of this specific group of young people who, through no fault of their own, lack the networks and connections that most people take for granted, thus lacking opportunities to help them succeed in life.
We will also introduce you to a number of very inspiring young people!
Futures Fair – Copleston High School
Sixth Formers are inviting businesses or business people from all sectors and backgrounds to come along to a Fair they are holding on 29th March from 5.30pm onwards. Would you like to come and talk to some young people informally about any or all of the following subjects:
Your business
Future opportunities
Future skills needs
What employers are looking for in young people
Starting your own business
This event will be looking to promote optimism!
